Gratitude

NORTHVILLIANS,

It was great to see many of you sharing your time and talents with the 150 or so guests and volunteers at the Community Thanksgiving gathering hosted by the Methodist Church this past weekend. Many enjoyed some turkey and fixings, comradery and the Lions on the Big Screen winning their 11^th game on their journey to the Super Bowl … the next opponent for them will be Green Bay on Thursday. I thank you all for coming together for the community, including businesses such as Genitti’s who provided the Turkey, Great Harvest the rolls, and the Mill Race Village (Historical Society) who donated some desserts.

This week, I thought I would slow down and thank those who have been there for others in our greater Northville area… we are Grateful.

Grateful for Northvillians Sharing Time and Talents:

• 1800’s to Today – Through the years, Ecumenical services have been held to help foster a spirit of cooperation and support for ALL in the community … quarterly prayer breakfasts with all our clergy have been re-established for communication for our spiritual leadership.
• Large Community gatherings have taken place over our 200-year history for fellowship and festivities like dinners, parades, music & dancing.In 1922, The Northville Record stated, “Radio came to Northville for all in the community to hear … & Northville Electric’s Cliff Turnbull (grandfather) made an antenna that was placed in the steeple of the Methodist Church (Stamp Peddler) for all to listen to this innovative invention called radio.” This was the first known radio broadcast to make its way into Northville.
• Many organizations such as the Masons, Eagles, VFW, American Legion, Rotary, Woman’s Club, and others have shared their time and talents with those in need in the community over time … especially around the holidays.

SPECIAL THANKS go out to the many support organizations in town…

• Civic Concern – This assistance organization provides food and more for those in the community (since 1983, up to 287 families touched yearly).
• 100 Women Who Care – “Small City/Big Heart” – this group of nearly 200 passionate women support Northville and our surrounding areas.
• VFW & American Legion – We are so appreciative for all they do (placing flags & maintenance in our Veteran cemetery sections, and involvement in the Ville).
• Parade / Festival Volunteers – We are known as the parade/festival city of Michigan. The assistance of volunteers (Wayne & Oakland County Sheriffs, and local first responders), along with the support of local organizations makes these events successful.
• Northville Public Schools – Cooperation/support for events, especially the Victorian Festival (The City, Township and School System have a special bond). We celebrated the State Championship Men’s Cross Country Team with a proclamation this week… special congrats go out also to the Girls Golf & Volleyball Teams who won State Championships.
• Northville Township – Working hand in hand for the betterment of our community
• Northville Library – Valued partner in civic educational events, along with task forces
• Mill Race Village – Special thanks go out to the staff/docents/volunteers for preserving and promoting Northville’s history
• Chamber/DDA – For coordinating events, activities and gatherings!
• Living and Learning – Enhancing the lives of participants with disabilities

• New Hope – Bringing hope, healing and new beginnings to those grieving a loved one

• Community Center – Area’s gathering space center for all ages (Youths to Seniors)
  
  
• Our fantastic Businesses – Strong giving businesses = healthy community
  
  
• All Board and Committee members & Task Forces – I am personally thankful to this group (27 boards / 5 task forces, equaling 6% of our population) for their tireless efforts.
  
  
• Any many others in the Greater Northville Community

Let’s all continue to share our time & talents with those in need during this holiday season and in the coming years. Know, the City is Grateful  to you!

If you are looking for a welcoming place to gather, I will see you with the rest of my family at the community Thanksgiving event at the Methodist Church (777 8 Mile), Thursday, 12:00 – 2:00pm enjoying some Turkey and a Lion’s game on the screen. Let’s all share our time & talents with those in need around us, especially during this holiday weekend.
